Description

This shot was a bit of a happy accident. I was spending most of each of nine nights in a row shooting another primary target. But I would have some time left at the end of the night. I was intrigued by the very faint nebulosity surrounding NGC 1931. So I turned the telescope on that area for an hour or two each of those nights and shot this two-panel mosaic. The colors and textures that came from that faint nebulosity are really reminiscent of an impressionist painting to me. This turns out to be one of my favorite deep-sky images.
