Description

The past 3 nights I've had decently clear skies. Unfortunately one of the nights I set up my plan on the ASIAIR wrong and didn't get any data, but the other two worked just fine. I've been really enjoying narrowband imaging and processing. The framing could have been better here, but oh well. I'm not sure which I like better, with the stars or without.

Also I'm not sure why there's some vertical lines down the center near the trunk. I don't see it in any of my subs. Could it be that I'm lazy and don't usually take flats? - See the description of Revision D.

Title: IC1396 (Better stars)

Description: I've gotten slightly better at processing so my stars look more natural in this revision than the original revision with stars.

Title: IC1396 (Fixed vertical lines)

Description: Thanks to a post here on Astrobin, I finally fixed the vertical lines that were plaguing a couple of my images. Since I had to restack and everything, I did change the processing up a bit, and at least to me it looks better than my original even discounting the problem.

If you're not sure about what lines I'm talking about, in the past revisions you can see them especially around the tip of the trunk. They were much more apparent in the masters.

Title: IC1396 Narrowband Color Mapper

Description: I decided to try the new Narrowband Color Mapper script to see what I would come up with. I also used GHS to stretch. Both tools are new to me, and as I'm working on a long term project when skies allow I used some older data to play around with.

NBColor Mapper is an interesting script, and there's infinite possibilities really with how people would colorize their images. In this particular one, Ha is red, Sii is a kind of orange color, and Oiii I picked a lighter blue color. I then ran ABE and BlurX. StarX so I could work on them separate. Histogram Transformation on the stars image, and GHS on the starless image. Played around some more in curves and color saturation. Put the stars back in, ran NoiseX, a bit more curves, and I had a finished image.
