Description

NGC6744 mimics our own Milky Way with floculent arms and an elongated core, although more than double the size.

It was discovered from Parramatta in Australia by Scottish astronomer James Dunlop on 30 June 1826.

NGC6744 is approximately 175,000 light-years across, and nearly 30 million light-years distant.

It appears to cover as much sky as the full moon.
