Description

My first Jupiter image with my new QHYCCD 533M camera.  This back illuminated CMOS camera replaces my 20 year old Lumenera Infinity 2-1M interline CCD camera for imaging the solar system.  The new camera not only has much more resolution (smaller pixels and a lot more of them), but the noise level is much lower.  Part of that is because the 533M is a cooled camera, and regulates to 0 C temperature.  The improvement in sensitivity is small, as exposure times are about the same with both cameras to get similar signal levels.  This image was up-sampled  2X in AutoStakkert! during processing.  It is an RGB image, taken in good but not great seeing.  I'm looking forward to seeing what it can do on a good night (or morning).
