Description

This region is an emission/reflection/dark nebula complex located about 4,000 light years away in the constellation of Sagittarius at a declination of -24 degrees. This object is located in the southern sky just 1 degree east of the Lagoon Nebula (M8). In fact, it may be an eastern extension of it.

I like how the bright reddish HII region contrasts with the adjacent reflection nebula, and how the reflection nebula has a purple cast from the nearby emission.  The dark twisting dust lanes add a nice touch.

On the right side of the image is the planetary nebula Minkowski 1-41.  It looks more like a HII region to me.

Using the same scope but a different camera (ASI6200), I took a wider FOV of this region in 2020, shown here.
