Description

NGC 1532 is a spiral galaxy in the Eridanus constellation, around 58 million light years from earth.

The feature that probably stands out the most is the structure "hovering" over the center of the galaxy. This is in fact another (dwarf) galaxy involved in a gravitational tug of war.

Over time, the much smaller dwarf galaxy will of course lose this battle and merge with NGC 1532. The streams of matter flowing between the two galaxies already gives an indication that this process is well underway.
