Description

The study of hydrogen in the Universe is also an essential tool in astronomy.
Indeed, the first element formed according to standard cosmology after the primordial explosion, it occupies large regions of the Universe in the form of "clouds", it initiates the whole epic of star life and remains predominant until in the heart of giant planets like Jupiter.
Essential fuel of young stars – and of the Sun –, it allows the nuclear fusion reactions at the origin of their brilliance and of all the energy dispersed in planetary systems – energy collected on Earth in the processes of photosynthesis or photovoltaic generators .

This image shows a region rich in H-alpha (Hydrogen alpha) in the constellation Cygnus.
Hydrogen after having been ionized (by radiation, high temperatures, etc.) will return to its ground state energy level by emitting (about once in two) the H-alpha line which is at a wavelength of 656.3 nanometers.
Wavelength located in the red part of the visible spectrum.
