Description

NGC 6357 Lobster Nebula is a diffuse emission nebula in the constellation Scorpius. It is located about ~5,500 light years away from Earth. The region, well known as a fast paced star birth one, hosts many very massive and luminous stars. It contains many proto-stars shielded by dark discs of gas, and young stars wrapped in expanding "cocoons" or expanding gases surrounding these small stars.  Its central open cluster (Pismis 24) hosts at least 20 stars with masses above 10 solar masses, with some above 100 solar masses. The data was taken remotely on a 20” Telescope in Río Hurtado, Coquimbo Region, Chile. I have not been able to use my own scope for months with the smoke from wildfires. The image set was from Telescope Live.
