Description

NGC 6229 is a rarely imaged globular cluster located 100 000 light years away from Sun, almost 5 times farther than M13, in the outer halo of our galaxy. Its age is estimated to be about 14 billion years. It is thought that "NGC 6229 could also be the remnant core of a former dwarf spheroidal galaxy".

Due to the large distance the apparent diameter of the cluster is just 4 arcmin. William Herschel added this cluster to his catalog as H IV. 50, where IV actually stands for "Planetary Nebulae". His telescope could not resolve the cluster.

Nights are becoming shorter at our latitude and during the three night the telescope was able to gather only about 3.5 hours of light frames per night.
