Description

NGC 3718 (also called Arp 214) is a galaxy located approximately 52 million light years from Earth in the constellation Ursa Major. Its S-shape is thought to be due to distortion induced by interaction with nearby NGC 3729, another spiral galaxy located just 150000 light-years away from it.
Just above NGC 3718 is visible the Hickson 56 Compact Galaxy Group, that is located 425 million light years away from us that consists of five galaxies, three of which appear to be in contract and interacting. Two of these three galaxies are radio sources. Infrared emission is also detected from this interacting system.
