Description

SH2-119 is a bright emission nebula located in the Cygnus constellation, about 2° east of the North America Nebula. It features several dust lanes as well as a vast star field.

SH2-119 is a lesser known target. Between the vast amount of stars and being so close to the famous North America Nebula, I think it tends to get overlooked.

I struggled with editing this image. I usually try to reduce the total stars in my image, which allows the nebulosity to stand out more. With this image though, I felt like the stars were just as important as the nebulosity itself, so I went against my normal processing and kept them intact. It does take away from the nebulosity, but the sheer number of stars is amazing in its own way.

At 32 hours of total integration, this is by far the longest image I've ever taken.
