Description

Cepheus is the constellation that has been accompanying me since the beggining of my astrophotography humble attempts. It may be easily seen by the naked eye and includes 43 stars.

In the picture you can see Alderamin which is only 49 light years away from us and it is as big as our dear Sun. Alfirk, which is next to it, shines out about 685 ly away from the Earth. Its name came from Arabic Al-Fiquah which might be translated as "the flock". That may wrongly drive to conclusion that Cepheus was a shephard According to Greek mythology he was the king of Etiopia and after his death he was transformed into a constellation by greek gods. Cepheus was the husband Cassiopeia and the father of beautiful Andromeda. You can see their constellation in the close neighbourhood.
