Sh2-155 is a diffuse nebula in the constellation Cepheus, within a larger nebula complex containing emission, reflection, and dark nebulosity. It is widely known as the Cave Nebula, though that name was applied earlier to Ced 201, a different nebula in Cepheus. Sh2-155 is an ionized H II region with ongoing star formation activity, at an estimated distance of 725 parsecs (2400 light-years) from Earth.

I decided on the Cave nebula after seeing so many well done pictures on this site and it always has me trying to peer around the centre thick nebulosity of the frame to see what's on the other side! I decided to go full narrow band with this image as I believe I could capture much more detail on the nebula with longer exposures to really soak in the photons, plus fight the moon!

I completely changed my processing workflow with this image, using some tools that I have never used before. I am happy with the new workflow as I believe it has improved my image processing results.

I love how dark and mysterious the final image resulted in and still keeps me tilting my head wanting to know what's around the corner!

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
