Description

I reprocessed this in 2023 and got a better result. The original description and processing details are at the bottom but here's the 2023 reprocessing:

RGB:
channel combination
DBE
SPCC
blurXterminator
starXterminator
noiseXterminator
GHS (GHS, linear, GHS)
HDRMT
LHE
Curves (contrast & color)
MLT (mild sharpening)
pixel math in stars (screen)

stars
GHS
unsharp mask (very mild sharpening)

Original description below:

Galaxy season isn't over yet!

Here are two galaxies in Coma Berenices, NGC 4394 (left) and Messier 85 (right).

According to the sources I checked, M85 is either an elliptical galaxy or a face-on lenticular galaxy. I wonder how one can distinguish between the two since we don't seem to have that ambiguity with most elliptical galaxies. Maybe it's of a size that could be a large lenticular or a smaller elipctical.

NGC 4394 is very obviously a barred spiral and looks to be a companion to M85.

Here's how I processed it:

RGB:
channel combination
dynamic crop
DBE
PCC
NoiseXterminator
GHS
starnet2 (extracting stars)
HDRMT
LHE
Curves (color)
MLT sharpening
pixel math in stars
curves (contrast)

stars:
unsharp mask (mild)
