Description

I started this image on 6/12 with my Sky Watcher 190mm Mak/Newt, but it is out of commission as the lens/camera holder on the focuser is broke and I cannot find a replacement or replacement parts anywhere.  I have even email Sky Watcher USA.  So I put my ES 127mm back on my mount and finished this up.  I was pleasantly surprised when NGC 6939 showed up in my image, so I did not crop this too much.

The Fireworks galaxy is fairly dim, with lots of nebulous objects and centered in a rich star field.  It is estimated to be 40,000 light years across and over 20 million light years away.  Nine supernovae have been observe as of March 2009, so the number could be higher, which is where its name was derived.
