Description

Collectively, NGC 5426 is a SAc spiral galaxy and NGC 5427 is a SABc Grand Design intermediate spiral galaxy which is weakly barred, make up Arp 271. The pair are about 130,00 light years across and 130 million light years distant. The kinematics of the pair have been analyzed in detail, showing that the pair are similar masses and relatively weakly interacting, and thus probably unlikely to merge. There is a bridge of material between them that belongs to NGC 5426. It has been proposed that NGC 5427 in moving clockwise (as seen in this image), in the direction of the (trailing) spiral arm rotation, from behind NGC5426 toward the foreground.
