Description

The region around Mare Imbrium is featured in this long focal length image of the waxing gibbous moon (74% illuminated) on May 22, 2021. Working clockwise around Mare Imbrium, starting at ~9 o'clock Sinus Iridium (Bay of Rainbows) is the crescent shape illuminated along the lunar terminator. At ~ 12 oc'lock is the prominent crater Plato, the lunar Alps, and the Alpine valley. At ~ 3 o'clock is a trio of craters the largest of which is Archimedes. The Apennine mountains start around these craters and arc around to the south.

Imaged with a C8 Evo, ZWO ADC, Baader 685nm IR pass filter, and ZWO ASI174MM. Imaging train was configured to give ~F/20 (~0.18 arcsec/pixel). Image capture using Firecapture with gain set at 300 and an exposure of 2.5 ms. Stacking in AutoStakkert3 (best 25% of 1000 frames). Panorama generated from 9 sub images using Microsoft Image Explorer. Wavelet sharpening, histogram adjustment, and RGB balancing in Registax6.
