Ngc 1333 est une nébuleuse par réflexion située dans la constellation de Persée.
Les nébuleuses par réflexion sont des nuages de poussières qui réfléchissent la lumière d’une ou plusieurs étoiles voisines dans un grand nombre de directions. Ces étoiles ne sont pas assez chaudes pour causer l’ionisation des gaz, comme dans le cas des nébuleuses en émission, mais sont assez lumineuses pour que la multitude des grains de poussière deviennent visibles par réflexion sous les effets de la diffusion.
Les nébuleuses par réflexion sont habituellement bleues parce que la dispersion par diffusion sur les grains de poussière est plus efficace pour la lumière bleue que pour la lumière rouge. C’est le même phénomène de dispersion qui, sur notre Terre, provoque des cieux bleus dans la journée et des couchers de soleil rouges.
Aujourd’hui, on connaît environ 500 nébuleuses diffuses par réflexion. Parmi les plus belles, on trouve l’entourage des étoiles des Pléiades.

Ngc 1333 is a reflection nebula located in the constellation Perseus.
Reflective nebulae are clouds of dust that reflect light from one or more neighboring stars in a large number of directions. These stars are not hot enough to cause the ionization of gases, as in the case of emission nebulae, but are bright enough for the multitude of dust grains to become visible by reflection under the effects of diffusion.
Reflective nebulae are usually blue because diffusion scattering on the dust grains is more effective for blue light than for red light. It is the same phenomenon of dispersion which, on our Earth, causes blue skies during the day and red sunsets.
Today, about 500 scattered nebulae are known by reflection. Among the most beautiful, we find the entourage of the stars of the Pleiades.
