Description

The Veil Nebula is a very large cloud of ionized gas in the constellation Cygnus. It was formed when a star 20 times more massive than our sun exploded somewhere between 10,000 and 20,000 years ago. The remnant of this explosion is what you are seeing in this image. If this gas was bright enough to be seen with the naked eye, it would cover an area of the sky roughly 36 times the area of the full moon. This image is actually a mosaic made up from 6 different panels captured with my Orion ED80T and ZWO 183 MC PRO camera with the Optolong L-Extreme filter. Each panel was made up of from 2 hours worth of 3-minute sub-exposures for a total of 12 hours of integration.
