Description

In this field two groups of galaxies are visible, on the left the Deer Lick group, and on the left the Stephan quintet. The Deer Lick group is dominated by the galaxy NGC 7331, a spriral galaxy about 40 million light years away and extended for 120,000 light years, intense star formation phenomena are visible. In the same group, 4 other small galaxies can be seen. The spiral galaxies NGC 7335 and NGC 7336, the barred spiral NGC 7337 and the elliptical NGC7340. These 4 galaxies are in perspective with respect to the main galaxy NGC 7331, and are 350 million light years away from the solar system. These 4 galaxies are gravitationally linked together.
The Stephan Quintet is a group of galaxies, catalog numbers NGC 7317-7318A-7318B-7319-7320. Of the 5 galaxies, NGC 7320 is prospective as its distance is about 40 million light years. The other four galaxies, on the other hand, are gravitationally linked and are 220 million light years away from the solar system. Three of the Quintet galaxies, NGC 7318A, NGC 318B and NGC 7319, show signs of morphological irregularity, while NGC 7317 appears to be apparently regular in shape. There is also a large number of candidate tidal dwarf galaxies in the group, including 13 in the long tail of NGC 7319, some east of NGC 7318b and others in its northern region, where extensive star formation takes place.
