Description

This object is an open star cluster located 1200 light years away in the constellation of Ophiuchus at a declination of 7 degrees. It is also known as Melotte 201 and Collinder 380. The cluster is about as large as the full moon in our apparent view at 30 arc-minutes, which corresponds to a true diameter of 10 light years. It contains about 30 stars.

This cluster has several dubious nicknames, including the Captain Hook Cluster, but I think it should simply stand on its own as a beautiful cluster.
