Just noticed new feature - today's IOTD was chosen by Salvatore Iovene. Great news, always good to know who are the judges |
Hope it will stay transparent from now on.
P.S. Congratulations to Paddy!

Yes, this is great. I'd also appreciate short description for reasons

Agree, it will make more comprehensible the motivations

I thought there was going to be poll setup to vote on whether to allow pro/ remote data for consideration for IOTD. Are we still thinking about doing this?

Your all-time favorite topic was not it discussed at length 10 times already, you'll upset a lot of people currently getting the IOTD and we'll see unbounded stream of boring M101, M 51, Pelican Nebula, Iris Nebula etc. only

It seems to me nothing has changed, actually. Always the same names among the "winners" and often at he expense of others very well done and gorgeous images. It does not matter for me to know who decides the IOTD, then if the situation still remained almost unchanged. Please correct if I'm wrong….

I see it differently.
The last 60 IOTD were made by 42 different photographers.
Some of it was made with simple equipment.
And I've found only two, that was not made himself, but with public data.
For me this is a good trend.

Hartmuth KintzelOf course to me are all well deserved, no doubts!
Was just my feeling, but I can be wrong. Let's see then this trend. I'm looking forward to see some other improvements on this IOTD that, from my point of view, can be also randomly choosen.
