What is this and why can't I like a photo. It says I need a index of 1 or more. If someone could let me know that would be a big help…. Eric4

Hi Eric,
the page that tells you that you need an index of 1 or more also tells you why:

Such limitation improves the website as a whole by discouraging people from creating fake accounts to like their own images. Thank you for understanding!

The FAQ on this site explain what the index is and how it's calculated:

How is the AstroBin index calculated?

The AstroBin index is a function of the number of Likes and the number of images posted by a user.

I received some Likes, why is my AstroBin index not updated?

Because it's computationally expensive, the AstroBin index is updated only every 24 hours. The same applies for the search index, the Big Wall, and some other user data.

And if you want to know even more, remember that AstroBin is open source, so you can look at the code:
https://bitbucket.org/siovene/astrobin/src/15d8a7c0d1c9803f03594b9b8d280772168c4ddb/astrobin/search_indexes.py?at=master&fileviewer=file-view-default#search_indexes.py-355

Hope this answers your question! :-)

Not even close to answering the question.  It says the number of likes increases your index scodre, but you can't like anything until your index is higher.

It’s the number of likes you receive on your own images that increases your score.

I couldn't figure out how to make a New Topic so posting here. Is it possible to delete images?

This is a very vague answer :-)))

The actual source code is posted a few posts above. It doesn't get any less vague than that :-D

I was aware of this and I did note that there was  No need to export STATIC_URL variable anymore

I have a number of years of programming behind me and I find that this is quite useful info.

But, when I was younger, one (perhaps uselessly) tried to present a succinct description in words. And also, to point at the exact entry in a repository.

It never got more complicated than that :-D

Clear skies smile

The only "actual source code" I see is a link. This link sends me to::

If I follow the new link, I get to :

Which, I assume, is where the source code resides. So are you actually suggesting that I look for a needle in this hay stack ? :-)  I have stopped playing "Where is Charlie?" a while ago smile  Is this really it ? Am I making  a mistake somewhere (I often do…smile ?

It does not matter. Frankly, the bottom line is that I dont care to see the algorithm. Just curious because I see a lot of curious numbers of likes and whatever. I'm more interested not to see my ranking every time I open my page. I dont practice this hobby for a gold medal and I dont really need to be reminded that my index is only smile  25 or whatever each time. smile

Cheers / Clear skies and good continuation. P.

If I like images posted by other people, does it have an effect on my own index?

I'm wondering why my index would go down (1.40 to 0.90) without losing any likes on my own images, or posting new ones. It was nice to finally have the opportunity to like images. Would it be possible to update the algorithm to permit the ability to like images once the ability has been earned, even if the index drops below 1.0 again?

Thanks you for your time and consideration. Enjoying the site. Just wish I could participate more fully.

Also, noticed an issue in astrobin/searches_indexes.py at line 292. Submitted as issue #621.

Eric4, you have to post some of your own work and get some likes to get your index above 1.
