Hi all,

I am new here but I've been an imager for years and live in San Diego, so Hi!

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I am looking for a simple machining job to drill and tap 4 holes on a plate (I have the plate already) to accomodate a new mount coming my way. Does anyone know if there is a place with reasonable cost? Preferably in the north San Diego but I can go around if it works. Much appreciated!

Thanks,
Yizhou

Hi Yizhou,
Are you part of Groups.io mailing list for the SDAA? We moved Yahoo group to Groups.io.
I believe someone asked about it before.

Hi Yizhou,
4 holes huh. Well I do my own tapped holes. What kind of accuracy do you need? What sizes and what is being mounted? I would imagine there is some forgiveness in the through holes on the item to be mounted - particularly if you are mounting accessories and not optics.

Anyway, had you considered doing it yourself? I might have the right sizes depending on what you need. I wouldn't mind doing it myself, but my accuracy and perpendicularity would be something a little less than spot on. Quite satisfactory for mounting accessories though.

I am in North county San Diego (Del Mar).

Jim

Thanks all for the input! @Mike @Hiroyuki Hakozaki I just got onto the Yahoo mailing list yesterday, I'll ask over there. Thanks!

@Jim Thommes I hear you, simple job lol. I am lacking milling machine and taps, and also I am not very skillful on this, but I'd agree it's a small and quick job and I don't think accuracy matters much here; I just want to make sure the base plate of the mount can be secured on this plate being modified.

Much appreciate for your help offer! My mount is still on its way; once it's here can I private message you, and see if you can help me drilling and tapping the plate?

Thanks,
Yizhou

I can also cut aluminum and drill and tap holes but I am in the South Bay area.  I have a friend who has a fully equipped machine shop in his garage in Carlsbad.  He has been willing to do small jobs for me and others.
