I was thinking we could do some sort of project - eg pick a target and then combine data to get very big integration time

I have no idea how to go about combining data from different scopes / focal lengths / cameras but i am sure a little research would help ?

Maybe we could try combining data we all ready have as a test

Thoughts ?

I'd love to do this.  Ollie, Clem and I did a couple of collaborations last years and it was great fun.
We each produced our own masters (L, Ha, Oiii, R, G, B, whatever) then integrated them.  A couple of us had data/masters from two separate scopes so we'd be integrating 5 masters.  We used Ollie's google drive account I think - I'm not really too good at that techie kind of thing.
The Abell 85 and the Jellyfish nebulae were done with them.
Ideally, combining the subs for one integration would be better I guess, but I've no idea how to share so much data easily.

Cool ! I used have a drop box account , probably still have but never use it - I will have look. I hadnt thought of sharing masters that could be the way to do it - I am guessing that integration the subs would produce better details also but may not be practical - maybe a test would be in order. I will do some reading.

Sounds like a good idea just need to decide which target

Great that you are up for it Abdul ! Any thoughts on a target ? Popular or obscure ? Galaxy or nebula ?

*** We are spoiled for choice in this hobby but maybe something that is not image too often? Maybe like a dark Nebula or reflection Nebula. Something like LDN 1217 or LDN 1235 in Cepheus or NGC 1788 in Orion***

But before we choose the target does the scopes focal lengths don't come into play or it don't matter?

Cheers Abdul

Apparently it is possible to scale data from scopes of different focal length and different cameras so that it can be integrated together using Pixinsight or some such. I've never done this so this will be part of the fun learning how to do this. Having said this I am guessing that we wouldnt want the focal lenghts to be too diferrent as the details wont be as good at very short focal length . I have got data on the Heart Nebula at 728mm 520mm and 250mm so am going to experiment with this data and see what can be done. There is also the issue that James has mentioned re trying to stack individual subs or not.

Re targets dark nebula would be cool but I worry about the light pollution making this a thankless task from Leeds

Okay sounds good. Yeah we will choose a target we can all agree on. We can go for a different category away from dark Nebulae

If we each produce separate masters then it's easy to just StarAlign them in PI and then integrate them.  As urmymuse said, it's best if the focal lengths are similar.  If some are shooting in high light pollution, then a dim emission nebula would be most sensible I guess (though, to be clear, I'm happy shooting anything)
Spaghetti neb (SH2-240) is a nice dim one, though may need too short a focal length for some of you

Sh2-240 sounds good. Will fit nicely in my Samyang 135mm and my modified Canon 750d if allowed

I'd be happy using my Samyang 135mm too, with an ASI2600MC.  I was planning to revisit it this year anyway

Sounds good. Can't use my 183mc pro as I would be using it with the Rasa though I still need to learn how to pair the Samyang with a Zwo camera

I use this.  It's great, cheap and easy, with a zwo filter drawer (plus spacer/extension tubes to get to right back focus) in between the adapter and camera.
Instructions on how to use it are in the description in the link too.

Would I be able to use my Starizona Filter slider with the camera with this attached to it?

I use this Abz, with any dovetail you like that fits
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185136335492
There are other similar ones on FLO eg the Astrodymium one.  I just fitted an EAF but manual focus is fine (I like the 3D printed Bahtinov mask for focusing)
No idea if the Starizona filter will fit - isn’t that just specifically for a RASA?
I could use my RedCat too (maybe a 2x1 mosaic to frame ideally) to boost data capture rate, I’ll have to try framing that up

Just checked back on last year’s image (here https://astrob.in/88zeyq/0/), a Samyang and RedCat combination, so you can just squeeze the RedCat in frame without mosaic.  So I’ve got 29h of data to start with (somewhere!) Framing was limited by the 533mm on the Samyang so it can be a wider framing with aps-c sensors, or even some quick mosaic data just for the wider frame as there’s not much else around there.
Good to get at least 100h between us if we go for this one, it is faint, especially the [OIII]
