Robery J. Sawyer one of my favortite writers Illegal Alien is a gas
Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars series is top notch
The 1st 4 books the  Dune series
David Brin's Uplift Saga
Anything written by Larry Niven

Not really Sci-Fi but Terry Pratchett's Discworld series is a must read.

I like reading sci-fi books, and here are a few books I liked the most:
  • The Left Hand of Darkness by  Ursula K. Le Guin
  • Neuromancer by William Gibson
  • The Martian by Andy Weir
  • A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller Jr
  • The Forever War by Joe Haldeman

I really enjoyed reading these books, but you know, it's always a little bit awkward to recommend something because we have different tastes and preferences, and others may find the books you like boring or something like this. And I like that I have a literature course, where we're talking about classical books and new ones. So that I have a chance to read a lot of cool books. But now I need to write a term paper on one interesting theme, and I have no time to read. I've found this useful site https://studydriver.com/is-college-worth-it-essay/ which provides very useful and interesting college worth it essay examples, and there I found some interesting ideas I'll try to describe in my paper. And, of course, I'll mention my literature course and how beneficial it's to me. And I hope that I'll finish writing as soon as possible to start reading something new.

Here's a slightly more recent novel series. Skyward by Brandon Sanderson. It appears from everyone else's comments in the feed that it might be a bit young as it is aimed at like teenagers, however when I gave it to my dad to read, he was hooked.

Humans are deserted on a planet and are under constant attack from an unknown alien species above them. A defense force has built up over generations and a young girl aspires to join up however her father deserting the force years ago from "cowardice" is stopping her.

Ha! My daughter got me hooked too! And yeah, it's no Dune, more of a Tom Swift for young adults, and even young grandfathers..... : )

Canticle for Leibowitz......that's one I haven't thought of for a long time! I'm finishing the last of Iain Banks sci-fi books that I haven't read, Feersum Endjinn, and though I often wonder what exactly the point of the plot was at the end his books, I don't think there's any other sci-fi author I enjoy reading more along the way.

Cheers,
Scott

Ha!.....I think FE best exemplifies my enjoyment of his writing wherever it's going, or not going..... I've got 50 pages left of 300 and I can tell you that there's some sort of encroaching darkness that threatens life on earth, though exactly what or why I don't know, and something's shaking up the crypt, a digital underworld, though again...... And none of the characters whose stories are tied up in these events seem anywhere close to any sort of conclusion, if in fact their story could even be called a quest.... Definitely not what I'd recommend as a first Banks read, but quest of a quest and endings without conclusions aren't uncommon in his books.

Cheers,
Scott

Id highly recommend The Mars Trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson, and also some of Stephan Baxter's book series. Proxima/Ultima is a great duology  and im currently reading 'Space' (the second book in a series, the first one being 'Time')

Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke, [1953].  Also very enjoyable to have playing as the Audible audio book [2008], while enjoying quiet time in the dark at one's telescope as images come rolling in.
