I bought my first scope about 18 months ago, to get my daughter interested in the sciences. Little did I know I would get hooked. I started with a Celestron NexStar 8SE. Seeing the rings of Saturn or the moons of Jupiter do their dance around the planet, urged me on further. I built an EQ wedge, and one night after my wife saw how frustrated I was with it, got me a CGX for our 20th anniversary. With the new mount, I needed a new camera, so I got the ZWO ASI1600MM-Cool and EFW. I then learned about FOV, and started looking around for a wider FOV, and bought a used 10" Astrograph. I am now in the process of putting togethter yet a 3rd image path to get an even wider FOV. |

Welcome to AstroBin and the money pit of a hobby. Just don't get a second on your house to buy more gear. ;) After studying for a year on everything I could find and counting the number of clear skies we get here in Virginia and subtracting the days I just can't get out on those nights, I cut the plans down to wide angle astrophotography (for now). Looking forward to watching you grow in this hobby. There are a lot of nice people around the world that have good advice. So keep you images coming and here is wishing you Clear Skies! Van |

Sounds like you started off a lot like I did - I got an inexpensive 130 mm Newt a few years ago because my 3-year-old daughter was obsessed with the moon and I wanted to show it to her up close. After viewing the rings of Saturn and seeing Andromeda, I got totally hooked and bought myself an AZ-EQ5 and 8" Newtonian astrograph (and a QHY183C and later a ZWO ASI 1600 MM-Cool). I now also have an 80 mm refractor and am planning on getting an 8" RC to have 3 focal length options. How do you like that CGX? Greetings from Delaware County PA. Chris |

Considering how Astronomy has taken me out of a deep pit of depression, all I have spent, is far worth it, and cheaper than therapy ;) |
