Hi all,
I don't know how to introduce myself here, as this is my first time and post here, but let's start with my name, I am Tareq, and i live in Ajman city in United Arab Emirates.

I was thinking about AP long long time ago, and i was asking in one forum i was using for photography but answers didn't get me anywhere, so i ignored AP for a while. This year, specifically on last Thursday, i bought a telescope but i returned it back yesterday, it was Celestron AstroMaster 130EQ, i was looking for a scope for imaging not viewing, and from answers i've got on another AP site it sounds this scope isn't a good choice, so that i returned it back yesterday and didn't get anything.

I came across this site from many astronomy photos links, and i am really amazed of how amazing nice quality shots over here, so i hope i can learn more about Astrophotography until i buy the proper scope, but first to buy a proper mount which all told me to start with as must, until then i will keep looking at photos here for inspiration and also keep reading.

Hi Abdulla, do you know good, dark places in your area? I have been there once and I remember the lightpollution is quite heavy everywhere, maybe the middle of the desert could work...

Hi,

Well, i really don't know anywhere, even in middle of desert it will not be total darkness, and as you said that the light pollution is extreme heavy everywhere. But i did read about filters or modifications to camera so that it can work in that heavy LP somehow, after all i must do something, i can't travel far out of my country just for dark sky very clear for view/imaging.

Dont get me wrong, astrophotgraphy is of course possible even under heavier lightpollution, it is just a bit more work, more efforts than normally. I was just wondering how is the situation in your country, maybe you know some darker places, small villages or something else which you have already spotted.

There are some areas in UAE where it can be much less light pollution and can have better view, bu those are far from where i live and i don't go to there at all, but i know such places, also some places surrounded by mountains as it may cover some of that light pollution or at least minimize it a bit, going so deep in desert for best view is possible but risky sometimes and much efforts too.

I was thinking to take my equipment with me next time if I have to go there, but it sounds not too promising. Anyway thank you!

You are welcome anytime here in UAE, and you can go around to find some dark places, but better in winter like these days because the weather is better and the sky is clear after raining or clouds gone, but in summer the heat and humidity will kill it definitely.

Hi.
You should find some informations about narrowband astrophotography ( h-alpha).
