Description

The Carina is by far the largest and brightest Nebula in our sky. Its shear magnitude and size makes it a wonderful object to photograph and study.
As a bonus it doesn't take a lot of integration time to get a great picture out of this object and is not as complicated as Orion in terms of processing because the overall brightness of the object is fairly even across the field.

This wonderful Nebula can only be observed from the southern skies. It is four times larger than the famous Orion nebula.

The star Eta Carinae at it's centre is a highly luminous hypergiant star. Estimates of its mass range from 100 to 150 times the mass of the Sun, and its luminosity is about four million times that of the Sun!

Right next to it we can find the Keyhole nebula. It is a small dark cloud of cold molecules and dust within Carina, containing bright filaments of hot, fluorescing gas, silhouetted against the much brighter background nebula.

This one never get old. I hope you enjoy this picture as much as I do.
