Description

I have been working on this image for a while, started on April 30th using my SW 190mm Mak/Newt.  But as I mentioned earlier it is out of commission so I switched to my ES 127mm triplet.  I was having either some tilt or collimation issues with my 190 and my stars looks awful.  So I just took a few images a couple of nights ago with my refractor to get some nicer stars.   I used StarX Terminator to get a starless image taken with my 190mm and then added that as a layer to my 127mm image.  This is a tough target to process to get detail and not blow out the core, which is a very notable part of this image.  If you zoom in, you can see some spiraling between the outer edge and the core, so I was happy with that.

M104 is around 29 million light year away and is estimated to be 130,000 light years in diameter.   In the 1990s a research group indicated that M104 has a supermassive black hole 1 billion times the mass of our Sun.
