Description

An excellent night of capturing this pair of galaxies with okay seeing but some of the best guiding I've ever had, with no lost frames all night!

My second run with the SkyTech CLS filter, which is making processing a lot easier with my London and Gatwick Airport light pollution on either side of me, albeit making colour balancing trickier on broadband targets like galaxies. I am happy with the overall colour balance I have managed to achieve here though, it does remain a little blue-red however.

I have just ordered a Baader MPCC Coma Corrector as the next step in my imaging journey, optimising one process and piece of equipment at a time, I hope this next step will allow me to use more of my frame and achieve tighter stars overall.

This was an excellent night overall for me, I had about 10" accuracy on my polar alignment using the PHD2 drift alignment routine and it really showed through in my guiding which remained at approx 0.7" RMS all night long, astonishing for my OnStep converted DIY EQ5 that is arguably overloaded with the 130PDS on it.

Total imaging time was 22:10-04:00 BST and I captured and used 47x 5 minute images for a total of 235 minutes or nearly 4 hours. Used 16px spiral dithering every two frames which added an extra two minutes of dithering and settling time to every 10 minute block of exposures.
