Description

This data was acquired during multiple nights. The field of view for the R filter data was different for the other filters. Therefore, the stars couldn't be aligned during post-processing without rotating the R data about 20 degrees clockwise. As a result, the resulting image is heavily cropped and some of the nebula is missing.

The Rosette Nebula is a large, circular emission nebula located in the constellation Monoceros. It is also known by its catalog names NGC 2237, 2238, 2239, and 2246. The nebula is estimated to be around 5,000 light-years away from Earth and measures about 130 light-years in diameter. It resembles a rose, with petals of gas and dust surrounding a central cluster of hot, young stars. The rose-like shape is created by the combined effects of the stars' radiation and the surrounding gas and dust. The gas is ionized by the stars' ultraviolet radiation, causing it to glow in shades of red and pink. The dust reflects the stars' light and appears hazy.
