Description

This 6.2 magnitude  open star cluster, comprised of about 80 stars, is located over 3000 light years away in the southern constellation of Puppis at a declination of -24 degrees.  The cluster is about 25 arc-minutes in diameter, which corresponds to a diameter of about 25 light years.

Like most clusters, the majority of the stars are blue-white, but the cluster also contains a number of bright red giants. Some think that the cluster looks like an arrowhead, which makes some sense to me.

The cluster has a Trumpler designation of I-3-r, meaning that it is strongly concentrated with a large range of star brightness and a large number of stars.
