Technically not first light with my new telescope but close enough. Second time I've imaged using my new Sharpstar 61EDPH to collect some more data of Carina. I'm blown away how much difference there is between the admittedly small telescope and my DSLR lens.

First time I've experimented with using a pseudo luminance layer (using the red channel from my RGB data) for giggles.

* HEQ5 Pro

* Sharpstar 61EDPH + f/4.5 reducer (274mm focal length)

* Nikon D5600

* Astrophotography Tool, SiriL, Gimp

# Imaging

* 2020-06-10: 168 x 60" subs @ISO200, 50 darks, 30 flats, 60 bias

* 2020-06-12: 75 x 60" subs @ISO200, 50 darks, 30 flats, 60 bias

It was quite cloudy on the 12th, about 20 of the subs contain significant cloud but I stacked them anyway.

# Processing

* Stacked in Siril

* Siril: photometric colour calibration, remove green noise, and background extraction

* Gimp:

** Stretched via levels and curves

** Extracted red layer to use a luminance layer

** Luminance layer: nudged contrast and brightness slightly to even out background/stars and highlight the nebula, sharpen via unsharp mask, erode tool to reduce stars

** Combined RBG and lum: Highpass filter with star mask to bring out nebula, another erode to reduce stars, adjust blackpoint

Submitted The date and time when you submitted this image for IOTD/TP consideration.	...
Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
