With COP 28, the UN climate conference in Dubai, shrouded in controversy, and more electric cars proposed as a solution, this particular chariot can only be described as high on emissions.

Auriga contains a plethora of interesting clusters, nebulae and stars. AE aurigae, a runaway star, lights the flaming star nebula IC405 around 1500 LY away (to the right of my image). IC410 the tadpole nebula on the centre, is 2200 LY away - the tadpoles are just about visible. IC417 the spider is after the fly (NGC 1931). Finally the lovely open clusters M38 at the top of the frame and M36 left.

Waiting for Auriga to clear the lum, and dodging cloud, I managed just 4.5 hours using UV/IR and UHC-L booster filters to retain good star colour and bring out the nebulosity. Taken at 100mm f5.6 using my SLR camera lens.

This time calibrated and stacked in Nebulosity v4, processed in Siril with my now standard Starnet removal, GHS stretch, Astrosharp and simple noise reduction. No doubt more data would improve SNR and saturation. I find the 2x2 binned data the cleanest.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
