Description

Technically, there is only a single Ghost of Cassiopeia, IC 63, the nebulous region at the center of this image. However, IC 59, the region at the upper right of the image, looks equally ghostly to me, so I have taken the liberty of unofficially christening both of them as "the Ghosts of Cassiopeia."

IC 59 and IC 63 are both parts of the larger nebula Sh 2-185, which also includes the nebulous patch at the left side of the image. I was hoping to capture at least hints of this larger arc of nebulosity, but was unable to, despite 8-minute sub-exposures and 4 hours of total integration time. It is always a bit of a crap shoot guessing how much nebulosity my stock Nikon D5300 is going to be able to pick up. Usually, I underestimate the amount, but this time I overestimated. Nonetheless, I was still pleased with the amount of nebulosity I was able to pick up, given that IC 59 and IC 63 both have pretty low surface brightness.
