@Nico Carver's Elephant Trunk recently, I decided to go for the Trunk as well. It is already pretty late in the season for the Trunk from my location, but the shooting windows nicely fit before my Rosette time frame, so I went for it.
Until now, I only shot the Trunk nebula in full size with the surrounding cloud in wide field, so the tighter framing was a nice change.
The way the trunk sits off center allows for a cool scenic framing.
I was worried the short total integration time
[insert random weather frustration statement] would not allow for an overall low-noise image, but the 2600MC and the F/4 Esprit came through once again.
There was not enough time to collect the sulfur channel, so I went for an HOO palette. During processing, the color mapping evolved into a dystopian industrial style that also spawned the idea for the title.
Another week had to pass before I was able to squeeze in an hour for RGB stars. Luckily, there was a clear window before this amazing target disappears for this season.
