Description

My first attempt to capture the sun in H alpha.

At first it took me quite a long time to find the right working distance for the Baader SunDancer II. Then the image was sharp in FireCapture, but the heavy wind and miserable seeing often smeared the image. When I tilted the etalon, the structures came out better and better. So the SunDancer was not well adjusted. I'll have to make up for that at the next opportunity.

Overall, I am highly satisfied with the performance of the instrument, even if it requires some time for optimization. But that's only at the beginning. Once I know the right settings, it should run smoothly. And for a first picture under adverse conditions, I'm reasonably thrilled.

Mosaic of 9 individual images. In each case the best 60 of 2000 images stacked with Autostakkert 3 and processed with Affinity Photo.
