Description

For me this is a re-visit of a target I captured two years ago (https://www.astrobin.com/367883/). Then like now, I used the HOO palette. But in my last attempt I failed to capture the delicate OIII filament structures around the nebula. In this version I achieved that goal. This version was taken with a longer focal length, so I was able reveal more detail.

My friend, tdsdmd, point out a black shadow in the center of the crescent just below and right the heart of the nebula, Wolf-Rayet star WR 136, and asked what it was. I did some research and could find no information about what this structure could be. If anyone reading this knows what it is, I would love an explanation.

This composition is primarily narrow band data but I did take some RGB to improve the star color. Data was acquired the nights of 2020-09-17, 2020-09-23, 2020-09-27, 2020-09-28. I started with RGB taking full advantage of the new moon and then moved into Ha and OIII as the moon waxed. Like all of my summer 2020 projects, smoke haze from the California wildfires resulted in lots of data rejection. I ended up with much less narrow band data than I had hoped, but it worked out OK. I'll just have to visit this target in another couple of years.
