Description

Thor's Helmet (NGC 2359) has been an object I've always wanted to image but my location has never been ideal to do so.............. including now, but I decided to try it anyway.  My location and setup would dictate not to expect much given: 1) it is relatively low in the sky; 2) my seeing conditions vary from below average to average, as was the case here; and 3) combining #1 and #2 with a C11" EdgeHD @ f/10 is not great as data are usually oversampled at 0.27 arcsec/pixel at bin 1).  However, I was determined to give it a go anyway.  This image does not compare with the beautiful ones posted by others but overall, I was pleased after creating about 7 versions and more are likely to come here as I made a variety of both SHO and HOO images.  SII is not very prevalent in this nebula but OIII certainly is.  This one is a variant of SHO with mixtures of all 3 gases in each channel.  I was hoping for more clarity and depth to the image but I think my setup as described above limits all of this.

Description: This is an alternative view using a different mixture of Ha and OIII which appears to give more clarity at the core bubble-like region of the object and also enhances the winged tips of the outer structure.
