Description

Barnard's E Nebula in Aql  (B143, LDN694)

First light with my new CEM26EC mount and also first time use of AstroTux – my Raspberry Pi 4 with Astroberry – on the small balcony. I am currently trying to put together a compact, low energy consumption mobile setup for the coming winter nights on higher mountain pasture, here in the Alps, further up above the narrow valley I'm living in.

From my tiny balcony, between high mountain slopes and trees (pure beauty at daytime!), my field of view is very limited: at the very best 2 hours imaging time are possible but only between 15° to 60° (max!!) above the horizon ...

Currently, Aquila stands still near the meridian at the beginning of the night. Because the alpha star Altair is well in sight, I first time used AstroTux (with GoTo and VNC client/viewer via WiFi ) to move it into the sensor's field of view. Unfortunately, I cannot use iPolar because Polaris is out of view on the balcony. Thus, I only polar aligned the mount provisionally, using the sun's shadow casted from a thin pole.

I have yet to learn the PA via plate solving with Ekos – which is impossible in the many cloudy nights we have, week after week ...

Finally, this image of Barnard's E Nebula is a first try with this setup and I'm grateful having had this single evening at least, with hazy but cloudless sky over the light pollution dome of my home town ...

I really wish you (and me!) Clear Skies!
