Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a small grand design spiral galaxy located almost 0.5 billion light years away in the constellation of Draco at a declination of +60 degrees.  It is a magnitude 14 galaxy which spans 1.5 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a huge diameter of 200,000 light years.

I love grand design spiral galaxies.  This one is a classic, with 2 strong arms which each extend 360 degrees around the core.   The core is a bit disjointed and seems to have shades of both orange and blue.  Numerous star clouds are seen in the outer arms.
