Description

The Pelican Nebula is certainly one of the most photographed emission nebulae in the Milky Way.
On the picture you can see the central region of this beautiful emission nebula.

The most striking detail of this nebula region is the long stretched so-called "elephant's trunk" (right of the image center),
this consists of molecular material and dust.

At the tip of the "elephant's trunk" a curved arc can be seen,
this is the Herbig Haro object no. 555, here gases from a young hidden stellar object are flowing outwards.

The total exposure time for this image is 12.5 hours!
