Description

This Astrobin Debut Object, also known as NGC 1437, is a spiral galaxy located 50 million light years away in the constellation of Eridanus at a declination of -36 degrees.  It is a magnitude 12 galaxy which spans 2.5 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a small diameter of 40,000 light years.

From our view perspective, the disk is inclined about halfway between face-on and edge-on.

This is a small galaxy with an occluded disk.  A faint spiral structure is seen on either side of the slightly barred core.  The outer edge of the galaxy has an unusual “rim” around the top half.
