Description

Omega Centauri, ω Cen or NGC 5139 is a globular cluster located in the constellation Centaurus. It was first identified as a nebulous object by Edmond Halley in 1677. As the largest and brightest of the globular clusters that our galaxy orbits, it has a diameter of about 170 light-years and some of the 10 million stars of a variety of ages. In fact, it is believed that it may be the remnant core of a small galaxy that is merging with the Milky Way. One of the objects that most impacts each time it is observed either with binoculars or a telescope.
