Description

Heart Nebula (IC 1805 / Sharpless 2-190)
  • Type: Emission nebula
  • Distance: Approximately 7,500 light years from Earth
  • Size: Roughly 200 light years across
  • Apparent size: 150 x 150 arc minutes
  • Apparent magnitude: 18.3
  • Age: About 1.5 million years
  • Constellation: Cassiopeia

The Heart Nebula, IC 1805 is a vast region of ionized hydrogen gas illuminated by young hot stars. At the heart (center) of the Heart Nebula is the star cluster Melotte 15, which contains several bright stars nearly 50 times the mass of our Sun. The intense radiation and stellar winds from these massive stars have carved out a cavity within the nebula, leading to its intricate structures and shapes.Details accurate to the best of my knowledge from research done in 2022.Very close to the Heart Nebula you will find the Soul Nebula. The Heart and Soul are often photographed together, in a single poetic image. My focal length won't allow me to do that, but maybe someday I'll create a mosaic.

This image needs some work. I hope to reprocess it someday soon.
