Description

The Hidden Galaxy (IC 342) - CDK14

Called the Hidden Galaxy as it is behind the dust of our galactic equator, making it more challenging to observe. Located some 10 million light years from Earth, IC 342 is one of the members of the Maffei group which is close to our local group.

The exposure was relatively long at 18 hours with a relatively fast CDK14 operating at f/4.7. The QHY600m camera was used at gain 0 to maximize the full well capacity but in High Gain mode.

Hydrogen Alpha data was captured at gain 56. Hydrogen alpha data captured by 3nm filters highlights the pink nebulosity in the spiral arms analogous to sparkling rubies.
