Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a grand design barred spiral galaxy located 80 million light years away in the constellation of Pisces at a declination of +4 degrees.  It is a magnitude 11.7 galaxy which spans 3 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 70,000 light years.

I like the bright and distinct point symmetric arm structure of this galaxy.  The bar and arms appear to be slightly skewed such that they are not quite perpendicular to the main axis of the galaxy.    Slightly brighter ansae appear at each end of the bar and a blue star forming region is seen surrounding the core.  Pseudo-rings are seen in both the inner and outer disk regions.

Just above NGC 718, a faint distant galaxy is seen at 11 o’clock.
