Description

Hole in the Wall Campground is within the Mojave Desert National Preserve in Southern California. Some of the darkest skies in the Southwest can be experienced here. It's also quite windy! (At least, while I was there.) Since widefield shots are less affected by wind, I opted for some Milky Way photography. I was surprised to see green streaks in my image preview. At first, I thought it might be a camera defect, but my friend captured the same thing. It's actually airglow or gravity waves, which is an aurora-like phenomena. Having never captured this before, it was a nice surprise.
