Description

The Jellyfish nebula is a large supernova remnant in the constellation of Gemini located approximately 5,000 light years from earth. The exact timing of the supernova is quite uncertain estimated to be 3 to 30K year ago. The tentacles of the jellyfish are a molecular cloud that supernova remnant is interacting.

I imaged this objects over three different nights with varying degrees of failure. The first night with Ha only the first week of January. Only the first 20 subs were usable as I forgot to toggle on the autofocus every 1-2 hrs. So after 2 hrs , I had pristine little star-donuts thanks to the small critical focus on the RASA 8. The next Ha went better, but when I had time to collect the OSC data it was quite windy and the seeing was below average with only 16 subs recovered. I decided to move on to other projects and retry this one next year.

Processing also proved to be a challenge with the very bright star ETA Germinorum causing significant reflection. You can actually see the outline of my micro 4/3 sensor if you look close. It also caused the Ha channel that I used for luminance and NBRGBcombo to bloom red around it causing a really terrible looking result. I tried to fix it delving into pixelmath iif statements, but never found the right balance.
